About Diwiks

Diwiks is a confluence of sound and design.

What began as an experiment in restoring 20th century radios soon evolved into an endeavour to create elegant speaker units with state-of-the-art sound. Each piece is hand-crafted by a team of artisans, technicians and designers in meticulous collaboration. The aesthetic is rooted and familiar, yet effortlessly timeless. Each Diwiks is uniquely designed, numbered and inscribed with the owner’s name. Our speakers are created with long-lasting materials, carefully reclaimed and polished by our expert craftsmen. A bridge between old and new, technology and craftsmanship, Diwiks speakers are poised to become heirlooms of the future.

Sound

Our signature two way amplifier was created in collaboration with leading sound designers and consultants. Our team of technicians and artisans work together to create an acoustically-proficient corkwood casing that ensures flawless resonance and sound quality.

Dynamic Stereo Sound

Each speaker is fitted with a two-channel stereo system and custom-designed kevlar cone drivers, producing rich audio details and negligible harmonic distortion.

Easy Connect

The system pairs and streams HD music seamlessly over Bluetooth and is WiFi enabled. There’s also COAX input alongside Aux and Line-in.

Compatibility

Committed to celebrating both the old and the new, Diwiks is compatible with your cell phone, your turntable, and everything in between.

Reclaimed Wood

The wood for the casing is Burmese teak wood from the 1930s and 1940s, the finest and most durable. Diligently sourced, reclaimed and prepared for acoustic excellence.

Team

Diwik founded Diwiks with the desire to create high quality speakers that are also one of a kind design pieces. After happening upon an old radio unit in his ancestral home, which he refurbished and fitted with modern-day controls, Diwik saw the potential of combining the timeless aesthetic of the 20th century with high end sound powered by the technology of the future.

Diwik Singh Chhalani Designer

Mainuddin hails from a long line of artisans. His ancestors were among the first karigars of Bikaner, who travelled to India from Iran in the 16th century and were tasked with building the foundations of the historic city. Mainuddin has had a vibrant career in craftsmanship, having worked on havelis, heritage hotels and even vintage trains and cars. At 65, Mainuddin’s curiosity for experimentation is still going strong, and he approaches each new project with spontaneity and an eye for innovation.

Ustad Mainuddin Artisan

Manoj represents the 5th generation of a family of suthars, the traditional community of craftsmen in Bikaner. Woodworking is in his blood, but he has also been quick to adapt to modern technology and a contemporary design language. Manoj’s work is precise and intuitive: he channels his inherited expertise into joints that appear seamless and is largely responsible for bringing our designs to life.

Our works are purposefully crafted using the finest materials from the past and technology of the future. One of our core beliefs is that luxury can, and should, be sustainable–it was Diwik’s eye for finding value in the old and unused that first prompted him to repurpose old radios. True to our motto, each speaker is a piece of antiquity, REMADE IN INDIA.

Studio Kasturi Kraft

Founded in the 15th century, Bikaner was one of the more prosperous cities in the Indian subcontinent, and even today is home to a wealth of artistic heritage. As a studio, we hope to carry forward the design traditions that are native to the city, employing local artisans in the business, and also providing a collaborative space for practitioners.
